Big Robert B. fan from decades past, I’m re-reading Valediction, published in 1984, the year I graduated high school. It’s the one when Susan leaves Spencer and goes to San Francisco. Spencer calls a woman he kind of sort of knows and invites her on a date.
Not so strange, right? Only think about the time of day. Who finishes work at 5:30? Admittedly, in the 1980s, I remember my folks generally coming home between 5:30 and 6:00 (except for the time Mom had that 2-hour commute).
