If you read my bibliography, you’ll know that I try to write fiction. I got the bug, so to speak, two years back, maybe a little more. I sold one story so far, trying to sell more.
There are a bunch of professional magazines for the type of fiction I want to write, maybe 10 solid, regular mags, another half-dozen quarterlies. One of the major magazines is The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. I’ve sent in a small handful of stories in the last 2 years, never really got a bite, but that’s OK.
But every time their editor, CC Finlay, sends back a response that shows he read the cover letter, gave the story his attention, and seems to be genuinely encouraging. In my cover, I wrote about my first published story. This was his response:
Congratulations on your first sale!
That’s always such a great milestone to pass.
I hope it’s the first of many.
Best regards,
C.C. Finlay, Editor
Fantasy & Science Fiction
I mean, how cool is that.
That is very cool. Have you ever talked with Suzanne Palmer? It’s a matter of consistent submissions and ideas. You’ll sell more.

Thanks, Bill. Yes, I have talked to her about this. I’m submitting pretty regularly. Thanks!
